The traditional door knob may finally become a rare commodity following the City of Vancouver’s decision to ban the wrist-twisting device in all new construction.
There is no place for sentiment and tradition in new builds. And especially when it comes to the old-fashioned and awkward door knob.
In a bid to create universal accessibility to all, city officials decided to enforce the law on new builds, including private homes, with the new ruling coming into effect in March.
Instead of door knobs, easy to manoeuvre levers will be added with officials saying such a move will help an aging population and those with small children.
Others, however, are not too happy, saying it’s a step too far in building design. But it’s a move that is becoming more popular.
